Adventures For 12 String, 6 String and Banjo
Adventures was at the time one of the few steel string solo records available. Fred Gerlach’s Folk Songs and Blues on Folkways (a reissue of his first album on Audio-Video Productions) had been released, but featured vocals, Sandy Bull’s Fantasia was available and there had been a few Fahey records pressed. Rosmini’s Adventures was pretty easy to obtain, having been released by Elektra in 1964.
Leo Kottke said that it was the only steel string solo guitar record that he could find.
There is a widely printed story about Kottke meeting Dick Rosmini backstage at a performance
“After complaining about his guitar during a show in Los Angeles, Kottke was visited backstage by Dick Rosmini, whose Elektra record Adventures For 6 and 12 String Guitar Kottke loved. Rosmini told him, 'You know, it really doesn't matter what guitar you play. It's all to do with your playing,' Kottke recalls. 'And he picked up this guitar that I had just been whining about and made it sound beautiful. Stunning. He had no finger picks on and had no trouble whatsoever making it sound wonderful. Then he left.' "
Dick Rosmini was an incredibly influential guitar player and in demand session musician, producer and engineer. He played on many folk records and soundtracks and toured extensively as an accompanist. His work is also documented on numerous compilations and anthologies. His guitar, bass and banjo can be heard on records by Bob Gibson, Art & Paul, Dave Van Ronk, Theodore Bikel, Steve Mann, Van Dyke Parks, Hamilton Camp, Ananda Shankar and many others.
He recorded 4 LPS under his own name. This is the first and only one we have. Rosmini continued playing sessions and engineering records until his death in 1995.
Adventures For 12 String, 6 String and Banjo is a wonderful record with imaginative and confident guitar and banjo work. It isn’t strictly solo as there is a bit of multi-tracking, bowed bass and percussion involved.
Some of the tracks sound a bit dated and are marred with goofy production ideas.
We are looking for a copy of A Genuine Rosmini , released on Imperial in 1969.

Love your blog. If you're interested in hearing more Mike Cooper, let me know. I have a double CD set by him called "Paper and Smoke" (it was only issued in the UK, I think, back in 2000). Probably long gone by now.
